'The World Racing League Might Be The Perfect Affordable Racing Series'
T.C. Worley - Pertrolicious
March 20, 2017
This is a typical mix at the starting grid at a World Racing League (WRL) endurance event, and my weekend at the Circuit of the Americas just outside Austin, TX proved why the series is some of the most fun and accessible genuine racing to be found the world over.

Rip Schaub - The Drive

Into club racing but feel like you don't get enough time on the track? Have three friends who are always asking to borrow your race car? Prefer the tenacity of Le Mans to the glamour of Formula 1? Then the World Racing League's endurance series is right up your alley.

The new WRL has re-discovered the guiding principle that gave us the golden age of road racing in the 1950's and 60's. They've figured out that you don't need a thousand rules to run a race series. You just don't.

I can’t speak for every driver from every team, but from my driver’s seat, it was the closest, most competitive, cleanest racing I’ve ever experienced. Over the 2 days, we completed nearly 1050 miles of racing, and had not a single new mark on our car.

These are our people. They’re not concerned with fame. They don’t want so see a bunch of cars wrecked or broken down in the grass. They just want to hang out and race. The rules are simple, the tone is irreverent. They’re safe, but they’re not afraid. The racing is inexpensive, but not cheap. The WRL hits right in the middle.

It's not every day we get to report on the founding of a new option for amateur racing. So it's with a fair bit of excitement that we bring you news of the World Racing League, a recently founded sanctioning body which seems to bridge the gap between the "almost anything goes" fast and loose style of ChumpCar and the 24 Hours of LeMons endurance leagues and the costlier options from sanctions like SCCA and NASA.

Auto racing in the United States is a mess. NASCAR has peaked. Their response to dwindling attendance has been new cars and fuel injection. In Indycar, the barriers to entry eliminate all but the uber-wealthy from competition. Tony George was the only guy willing to take a risk and try to solve open wheel's problems. He had the right idea at the wrong time. Now it's road racing's turn to try and recapture lost glory. And I wonder if they're the ones who will get it right.
